India Expels Three American Christian Women for “Proselytizing”

International Christian Concern (ICC) has learned that Indian authorities asked three American Christian women, including a 15-year-old, to leave India after Hindu organizations accused them of attempting to convert non-Christians by offering them incentives in Alappuzha district, Kerala State.

According to the report by the Times of India, although Indian police admitted that they do not have any evidence indicating that the women participated in proselytizing, they still asked them to leave because the Christian women were about to attend prayer sessions. Read more of this post

A trafficked minor girl rescued from brothel in Pune, Maharashtra State, India

The Indian Rescue Mission (IRM), a Christian organization that rescues minor girls forced into prostitution, was able to rescue a 15-year-old girl from the clutches of her oppressors from a brothel in Pune city, Maharashtra State, on Tuesday, May 10, 2011.

After hearing of her case, the IRM team went on a three day search for this girl and finally she was found and rescued with the help of local police.

According to the liberated girl, she was trafficked from West Bengal State to Maharashtra State on a false promise of job by a pimp, but then the pimp sold her for 60,000 Rupees (USD $1,364.00) to a brothel keeper in the Pune’s red light area. Read more of this post

Survey of Christians in India Sets Off Alarm Bells – Church leaders complain of illegal religious profiling in Madhya Pradesh

Compass Direct News (ANS) is reporting that an attempt by police in India’s Madhya Pradesh to survey the state’s Christian minority came to light this month and left church leaders calling for a federal investigation into alleged religious profiling.

The CDN story stated that Dr. John Dayal, secretary general of the All India Christian Council, called for a National Commission for Minorities probe into the survey, which sought data on where Catholics and Protestants live, their economic status, and details of Christian-operated schools, including sources of income and whether they get foreign funding.

Police later withdrew the controversial survey after Christian leaders approached state Director General of Police S.K. Rout, who denied any knowledge of it. Read more of this post

Two Indian Christians Languish in Saudi Prison

Compass Direct News (CDN) is reporting that friends and family of two Indian Christians arrested after a prayer meeting in Saudi Arabia in January have tried in vain to secure their release.

The CDN story says that the Christians were incarcerated for attending the prayer meeting with other Indian nationals and accused of converting Muslims to Christianity, though the government has not leveled formal charges, sources said. Yohan Nese, 31 and Vasantha Sekhar Vara, 28, were arrested on Jan. 21 when mutaween (religious police) raided an apartment where the two had lingered after attending the prayer meeting.
